On April 22, 2026, symbolically, on International Earth Day, representatives of UNP WG3 “Environment, Climate Change and Energy Security” and CSP WG5 gathered for their meeting to discuss current issues of the platforms’ activities, the challenges facing the working groups today, and to exchange information on possible initiatives for the future.

Members of both working groups are active participants in the processes of European integration, reconstruction, and environmental and energy policy, so the issue of the opportunity to join the formation of position papers of the European Economic and Social Committee was of particular interest.

Tamara Malkova, WG5 coordinator, and Nataliya Andrusevych, WG3 coordinator, informed the meeting participants about the status of the platforms, in particular, regarding plans to hold the UNP annual assembly in June 2026, including holding a public event and preparing a position paper.

The meeting participants suggested returning to the issue of restoring the Ministry of Environment as a separate body, as well as paying special attention to plans to install small modular reactors.

Regarding the topics of initiatives for 2026, the working group members drew attention to the need to continue previous initiatives that require additional advocacy efforts (e.g., production sharing agreements, monitoring of recommendations of annual enlargement reports on the environment and energy), and also outlined possible new areas of work, such as green public procurement.
