On 11 February, Marta Chumalo UNP WG1 coordinator represented the Eastern Partnership Civil Society Forum at the 5th meeting of the EaP Working Group on Gender Equality, focused on tackling technology-facilitated gender-based violence (TFGBV).

The focus for this meeting of the EaP Working Group for Gender Equality is Technology Facilitated Gender Based Violence, with the following objectives

  • Highlight the scale, and magnitude of technology facilitated gender-based violence
  • Share best practices and legal frameworks to address gender-based violence on line
  • Facilitate networking and knowledge exchange among members of the Eastern Partnership working group for gender equality

Digital violence and gender discrimination is increasingly used to harass and silence women and girls, limiting their participation in public life.

While some countries have legal and institutional frameworks to address gender-based violence, implementation remains weak and TFGBV is often not recognised as a distinct form of violence requiring targeted action.

Marta Chumalo spoke at the working group and presented the work of the Ukrainian National Platform to combat digital violence against women. After all, it was in 2025, within the framework of initiatives supported by the UNP EaP CSF, that the initiative of the Women’s Perspectives Center “EU Directive 2024/1385: Challenges and Opportunities for Ukraine” was supported and implemented. As part of this initiative, the compliance of Ukrainian legislation with the requirements of the Directive was analyzed and recommendations of the Verkhovna Rada were developed to improve legislation. These recommendations were presented to the Working Group on Gender Equality of the Eastern Partnership countries, since a significant part of the Directive concerns digatal violence against women.
