A public online discussion “The Eastern Partnership Civil Society Forum Tools to Achieve the Ukrainian National Platform Strategic Goals” was held.
On the eve of the Annual Assembly of the Eastern Partnership Civil Society Forum, the Ukrainian National Platform held a public discussion on the presentation and promotion of the Platform’s new strategic goals at the Assembly and their integration into the Forum’s activities.
The event was attended by EaP CSF delegates, active members of the Ukrainian National Platform, representatives of the expert community and the public sector.
The discussion was focused on the priorities for transforming EaP policy, which should be radically changed to meet the current realities of Ukraine’s, as well as Moldova’s and Georgia’s, aspirations for EU membership. It was noted that EaP policy should clearly envisage the prospect of EU membership for partner countries that have the appropriate ambitions and achieve the defined criteria for EU approximation.

According to the panelists, not all the opportunities of EaP policy are effectively used by Ukraine, in particular by the Civil Society Forum. The members of the Ukrainian National Platform agreed on the need for more active advocacy of numerous analytical and position papers regularly prepared by UNP on relevant European integration topics, as well as the initiation and holding of joint events with European official structures on Ukraine’s European integration. It is necessary to encourage the Civil Society Forum to raise issues that are urgent for Ukrainian society and ensure their discussion at the highest European level.
European technical assistance projects for EaP countries should become more open and involve the public sector more closely, and public participation should become a mandatory and integral part of future projects to restore Ukraine.

The panelists agreed that proposals would be prepared for discussion at the Forum’s Annual Assembly and included in the resolution, as well as for the work plan of the Forum’s working groups for the next year.
