NGO “Analysis centre of the Agrarian Union of Ukraine”, member of WG2 the UNP started implementation of the initiative “Food security and food safety during and after the war” within the project “Supporting the activities of the Ukrainian National Platform of the EaP CSF in 2021-2023” that is carried out by the Institute for Economic Research and Policy Consulting (IER) with the financial support of the European Union.

Aim of the initiative: To find out the state of affairs in the field of food security (food security) and safety of food products (food safety) during the war and, on this basis, to outline the prospects for the post-war development of food production in the context of European integration (the EU Green Course and the concept of “from farm to table” as its part).

Activities within the project:
1) The study of the state of food security and food safety during and after the war, aimed at determining the impact of the war on the state of the food market and clarifying the prospects for the development of the agricultural and food sector at the stage of the post-war revival of Ukraine in the context of European integration, the transformation of world food systems and strengthening Ukraine’s presence on world food markets.

2) Conducting a focus group for 4 regions (eastern, northern, southern and western regions) on the topic “Assessment of the state of food security and the situation on food markets in the region” with the participation of representatives of agrarian and food business in the regions.
3) Conducting a round table with experts on the topic “Prospects of the post-war development of food production in the context of European integration according to the EU Green Course and the concept of “from farm to table”.
4) Preparation of the monitoring report “Food safety and security during and after the war”.
5) Cooperation with specialized authorities (the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine, the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine, the State Production and Consumer Service of Ukraine and its regional branches, the Council of Exporters and Investors under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine) in order to provide officials of state authorities and international organizations with reliable information about the state of food security of the state and the situation in the field of food safety during the war, as well as ensuring strict adherence to European integration requirements and standards in the field of food safety at the stage of the post-war revival of the agricultural sector and the national food industry.

Expected results:
The project will contribute to the achievement of the goals of the EaP regarding the creation of a stable, sustainable and integrated economy, resilience to climate and environmental changes, the strategic goals of the UNP to promote the implementation of the priorities of the EaP by Ukraine, advocacy for Ukraine’s membership in the EU, and the establishment of the UNP as the flagship of Ukraine’s European integration.
