We present the research of the NGO “Bureau of Social and Political Development” (members of WG1 UNP) “Raising public awareness on combating stereotypes and gender inequality, the risks of violence against women and domestic violence and international standards in this area“.

We continue to share the results of initiatives supported by the UNP in 2021 under the project “Support to the Ukrainian National Platform of the Eastern Partnership Civil Society Forum (UNP EaP CSF) in 2021-2023”, administered by the Institute for Economic Research and Policy Consulting funded by the Eastern Partnership Civil Society Forum and the European Union.

Purpose of the initiative. Ensure public participation, including UNP EaP organizations, in advocating for ratification of the Istanbul Convention of the Council of Europe on the Prevention of Violence against Women and Domestic Violence and developing proposals for ways to overcome violence against women and gender-based violence the irreversibility of punishment for violence and the provision of maximum support and assistance to victims, especially children, the elderly and people with disabilities. Raising public awareness of the fight against stereotypes and gender inequality, the risks of violence against women and domestic violence and international standards in this area.

The initiative conducted a study that highlights the prevention of violence against women and domestic violence, contains proposals for ways to overcome violence against women and gender-based violence, urgent measures to prevent and minimize domestic violence, the irreversibility of punishment for violence and the maximum support and assistance to victims, especially children, the elderly and people with disabilities, as well as covers the scope of the Laws of Ukraine “On Prevention and Combating Domestic Violence” as amended in 2019, “On Principles of Preventing and Combating Discrimination in Ukraine” and recommendations concerning the adoption of the draft Law on Amendments to the Code of Administrative Offenses of Ukraine and the Criminal Code of Ukraine on Combating Discrimination (No.5488), ratification of the Istanbul Convention.

Information and advocacy campaigns

Rostislav Dzundza (NGO “Bureau of Social and Political Development”) presented the results of the initiative during a working meeting of associate members of the IFO “Human Rights and Health of the Nation” on October 18, 2021

The initiative developed proposals for ways to overcome violence against women and gender-based violence.

A draft Appeal to the deputies of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine WG 1 “Democracy, Human Rights, Good Governance and Stability” of the UNP EaP CSF and WG 2 “Freedom, Justice, Human Rights” of the Ukrainian side of Civil Society Platform was prepared, with a call to support the draft Law of Ukraine “On Amendments to the Code of Ukraine on administrative offenses and the Criminal Code of Ukraine on Combating Discrimination” (Reg. No. 5488 dated 13.05.2021), which is included in the agenda of the sixth session of the Parliament and the urgent ratification of the Istanbul Convention.

The advocacy campaign was aimed at the deputies of the Verkhovna Rada – Bulakh L.V., Yakovleva N.I., Tarasenko T.P. and the Government Commissioner for Gender Policy Levchenko K.B.
